There is plenty to do and see in the area. If you don’t fancy venturing too far, a canal side walk is always interesting with fantastic wildlife to be spotted. On cold wintery days, a good walk is always topped off by returning to the pub to sit and warm yourself in front of one of the smouldering wood burners.
Further afield is the picturesque town of Bradford on Avon, 7 miles away and the Georgian city of Bath only 14 miles away. There are great local farmers markets in Devizes, Bradford and Bath, the latter offering great all year round shopping.
The ancient city of Bath is one of England’s premier tourist destinations, with must see visits to the Roman Baths, The Royal Theatre and the recently completed Bath Spa.
The pretty and unspoilt village of Lacock is nearby. The village and Abbey are owned by The National Trust and is often used as a backdrop in films such as Harry Potter, Middlemarch and Cranford. The National Trust property of Great Chalfield Manor used in the film ‘The Other Boleyn Girl’ is close as is Dyrham Park and The Courts at Holt.
There are plenty of activities available locally and can be organized for you. These include clay pigeon shooting at Lacock, Hot air ballooning over Bath or horse riding at Lucknam Park.
Whether it’s for a visit to friends or family locally or a weekend away, you will always find the Somerset Arms a friendly and welcoming establishment with great atmosphere.
